Stop Pool Damage Before It Gets Worse
That crack in your pool isn’t going to fix itself. In fact, left untreated, it will only grow larger and more expensive to repair. Leaks waste thousands of gallons of water and can undermine your pool’s foundation.
At David Resurface, we specialize in structural repairs that address the root cause of problems, not just the symptoms. Our goal is to give your pool the longest possible life with repairs that last.
Common Pool Structural Problems
Pool Cracks
Not all cracks are created equal:
Surface Cracks (Crazing)
- Spider web patterns on the surface
- Don’t penetrate through the shell
- Usually cosmetic only
- Common in older plaster
Structural Cracks
- Deeper cracks through the shell
- May show movement over time
- Can cause water loss
- Need immediate attention
Settlement Cracks
- Caused by ground movement
- Often appear at corners or steps
- May indicate ongoing soil issues
- Require stabilization repair
Pool Leaks
Water loss has multiple causes:
- Shell cracks - Water escaping through the structure
- Plumbing leaks - In return lines, skimmers, or main drain
- Light fixtures - Failed gaskets or conduit seals
- Tile bond - Gaps behind waterline tiles
- Equipment pad - Leaks at pool equipment
Foundation Issues
Soil problems in Arizona:
- Expansive clay soil movement
- Settlement from poor compaction
- Erosion from water leaks
- Groundwater changes

Our Repair Methods
Crack Injection
For non-moving cracks:
- Crack is cleaned and prepared
- Injection ports installed
- Epoxy or polyurethane injected
- Material penetrates full depth
- Ports removed and patched
Best for: Stable cracks that don’t show movement
Crack Stapling
For larger or moving cracks:
- Perpendicular slots cut across crack
- Carbon fiber or steel staples installed
- Crack injected between staples
- Surface patched smooth
- Prevents further crack movement
Best for: Structural cracks, settlement cracks
Leak Detection & Repair
Finding and fixing the source:
- Pressure testing plumbing lines
- Dye testing visible cracks
- Electronic listening equipment
- Isolation of leak areas
- Targeted repair of source
Foundation Stabilization
When soil is the problem:
- Assessment of soil conditions
- Compaction grouting if needed
- Void filling under pool
- Shell crack repair
- Preventive measures
Understanding Pool Crack Causes
Temperature Stress
Arizona’s extreme temperatures cause:
- Expansion during hot days
- Contraction during cool nights
- Stress at corners and steps
- Fatigue over many cycles
Soil Movement
Common in the Valley:
- Clay soil expansion when wet
- Contraction during drought
- Differential settlement
- Erosion under the pool
Age and Wear
All pools age eventually:
- Plaster deterioration
- Bond failures
- Chemical erosion
- Material fatigue
Construction Issues
Sometimes original problems:
- Inadequate reinforcement
- Poor soil compaction
- Improper curing
- Thin shell areas
When Repair Isn’t Enough
We’re honest about limitations:
Repair is usually sufficient when:
- Cracks are limited in number
- No major structural failure
- Soil conditions are stable
- Pool shell is generally sound
Major renovation may be needed when:
- Multiple structural failures
- Ongoing soil movement
- Pool shell is severely compromised
- Repair costs approach replacement
We’ll give you an honest assessment and never recommend work you don’t need.

Repairs FAQ
Common questions about this service
How do I know if a crack is structural or just cosmetic?
Surface cracks (crazing) are thin and don't penetrate the shell. Structural cracks are wider, may have movement, or cause water loss. We can assess this during an inspection.
Can all pool cracks be repaired?
Most cracks can be repaired successfully. Exceptions include major structural failure from soil movement or severely compromised pool shells. We'll give you an honest assessment.
Will the repair be visible?
Crack repairs may be slightly visible on the surface. For a completely uniform appearance, many homeowners combine structural repair with resurfacing.
